Speaker:Dr. Eduardo de la Fuente Acosta
Affiliation:Instituto de Astronomia y Meteorologia, Universidad de Guadalajara
Date:September 12, 2017 (Tuesday)
Time:10:30 a.m.
Venue:Room 522, 5/F, Chong Yuet Ming Physics Building, HKU

Abstract

Due to the advance of technology in the 21st century, High Energy Physics (HEP) is considered one of the most exciting topics in Physics. Several Nobel prizes have been awarded in this area. This are is also closely related to Astrophysics via what is known as Multi-messenger Astronomy, including the different Astroparticles: Cosmic Rays, Gamma Rays, and Neutrinos. In this first part of these lectures, I will give an overview of how High Energy Astrophysics is linked with Multiwavelenght Astronomy and the Astroparticles. I also present how the various Astroparticles are related and how, via Gamma-Ray Astrophysics, it is possible to understand the most energetic and violent universe; a cataclysmic universe ruled by black holes and explosive events. For completeness, a summary of the Physical Processes will be included.

Coffee and tea will be served 20 minutes prior to the lecture.
Anyone interested is welcome to attend.
