Welcome to Dr. Wang Yao's group

We are a theoretical group working in an interdisciplinary field across condensed matter physics, quantum physics, and optical physics. Our research interests cover open quantum systems and quantum environment, quantum controls, cavity quantum electrodynamics, semiconductor optics, and topological quantum transport.

Research Highlights

Quantum computing by optical control of electron spins,

Ren-Bao Liu,Wang Yao, and L. J. Sham,

Adv. Phys. 59, 703 (2010).

We review the progress and main challenges in implementing large-scale quantum computing by optical control of electron spins in quantum dots. [Article link]

Optically controlled locking of the nuclear field via coherent dark-state spectroscopy,

Xiaodong Xu,Wang Yao, Bo Sun, D. G. Steel, A. S. Bracker, D. Gammon and L. J. Sham,

Nature. 459, 1105 (2009).

We report the suppression of nuclear field fluctuations in a singly charged QD as shown by an enhancement of the single electron spin dephasing time by a factor up to several hundred. [Article link]

Media coverage: ScienceDaily, EurekAlert, PhysOrg

We have openings for postdoctoral fellows and for graduate students. Please contact Dr. Yao if interested.
