Abstract
Pulsar population synthesis is a powerful technique for testing various pulsar physics and estimating the associated high energy events. The measurement of spin period and its first, second derivative of pulsar population indicates the evolving spin-down torque. We simulate the pulsar population to determine whether the magnetic decay or tendency for the magnetic axis to align with the spin axis is to blame and constrain the decay timescale.
Four main steps may be drawn from our simulation: First, applying the state-of-the-art distribution models, we assign each newborn pulsar its initial attributes. Then, each pulsar begins two distinct evolutions (dynamical motion and spin down) over a random age. Next, we calculate its radio and gamma-ray emission with its final characteristics and determine if it can be detected by surveys. The optimal model and parameters are determined by employing a multivariate statistic, comparing with all radio survey observation samples.
