Post-doctoral Fellow in Photonics and Optoelectronics in the Department of Physics

Applications are invited for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellows in photonics and optoelectronics in the Department of Physics (Ref.: 528865), to commence as soon as possible for 12 months, with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance.

 

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or relevant areas.  Those with experience in optoelectronic devices, topological photonics, nanofabrication are welcome to apply. The appointees will work with Prof. Shuang Zhang to pursue research in nanophotonic devices.  Prof. Zhang’s research interests cover a wide range of topics in photonics, including, but not limited to, topological metamaterials, metasurfaces, non-linear optics, etc.  The current publications of Prof. Zhang group’s can be found at:

A competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • work on a project related to Nanophotonics and Optical Physics
  • design/refine the research instruments
  • coordinate data collection and analysis
  • support the organization of dissemination events
  • assist in the preparation of reports
  • perform other duties as assigned

 

Requirements

  • a Ph.D. degree (or pending soon PhD degree) in Physics, Applied Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
  • an good command of written and spoken English
  • good interpersonal, communication, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • the ability to work on a tight schedule to meet project deadlines
  • the ability to work independently and in a team
  • self-motivated and responsible
  • The appointee will work with Prof. Yi Yang’s group to conduct research on optical physics and nanophotonics.  Areas of research include nanophotonics at the extreme nanoscale, free-electron-light interaction and quantum optics, and synthetic gauge fields in topological photonics.
