Public Seminar of RPg Student: Matrix Product State Representation for Quantum Hall Systems and Kac-Moody Algebra

Abstract

We will talk about an exact matrix product states (MPS) representation for fractional quantum Hall (FQH) wavefunctions and their quasiparticle excitations by exploiting their underlying conformal field theory (CFT) structure. The MPS formalism provides a powerful framework for understanding key features of FQH systems, including edge state excitations and topological ground state degeneracy. On an infinite cylinder geometry, this approach enables efficient numerical evaluation of the MPS, allowing detailed investigation of scaling properties in the Laughlin entanglement spectrum. Through this method, we can achieve definitive identification of both the U(1) charge modes, including precise determination of their characteristic velocities.


Furthermore, we will also talk about extending the lattice construction of Kac-Moody algebra generators to continuous one-dimensional bosonic systems. Using bosonization techniques, we rigorously connect this microscopic construction to CFT generators while analyzing its fundamental properties in continuous systems. These results bridge quantum Hall physics, conformal field theory, and tensor network methods, offering new computational tools and theoretical insights for studying strongly correlated quantum systems.
