Fermion-Mediated Interactions and Induced Bosonic Binding in a Cs-Li Bose-Fermi Mixture

Abstract

Ultracold Bose–Fermi mixtures provide a versatile platform for exploring interaction mechanisms that bridge few-body and many-body physics. Two prominent examples are Efimov physics, which gives rise to universal three-body bound states near resonant interactions, and fermion-mediated interactions such as the Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida (RKKY) mechanism, which generate effective long-range forces between impurities embedded in a Fermi sea. Both phenomena have been observed in recent experiments using strongly interacting atomic gases. In this work [1], I will present a novel resonance in quantum degenerate Bose-Fermi mixtures of 133Cs and 6Li. By tuning the boson-fermion attraction to large values, we find that the surrounding Fermi gas can generate an effective interaction between bosons that leads to the appearance of a binding resonance within the bosonic sector. Our results demonstrate how many-body effects originating from the degenerate Fermi gas can strongly influence few-body bound-state formation.
