Abstract

We have developed a scintillation crystal detector of 300 kg CsI(Na), called CICENNS, in order to study unexplored neutrino properties by the coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering (CEvNS). A sufficient CEvNS event rate is expected using ~30 MeV neutrinos from pion and muon decays at rest in the China Spallation Neutron Source and will allow a precise measurement of the coherent cross section and efficient searches for the new physics signatures beyond the Standard Model. A sub-keV threshold of nuclear recoil energy, 2 or 3 keV, will be possibly obtained based on having two PMTs attached to both ends of each 20 kg crystal and an effort on significant reduction of its internal radioactivity. The experiment expects to begin data-taking from coming November, 2026. In this talk, we will describe an improved detector design, the detector construction status and expected sensitivities for new physics searches.
